Make the Understudies Look Great

Sell success to the audience of a cast that doesn’t get to perform together regularly.

Very often the full-time and contracted cast finds rhythms, bits, moments, and beats that work for them but are hard to recreate with someone new who will only be in tonight.

Don’t show the understudy how you think it’s supposed to go, or expect them to be up to speed on the moment you and your counterpart have created over the last few weeks.

Instead, be kind – rewind. Go back to the original script and score and do the show your understudy is expecting you to do.
